Protest against Ashutosh in Ludhiana (Dec 5, 2009)
With multiple reports coming out of Punjab, a curfew in place and an alleged blackout, no one really knows the ground reality. However, regardless of what the exact details are, this past year has provided multiple flashbacks of the Nirankari - Sikh Clash from 1978.
It seems as though every time Sikhs decide to protest, that the behaviour of the Police is reminiscent of the their action during the Nirankari episode - during which the Punjab Police and the Nirankaris left 13 peaceful Sikh protestors murdered and dead - of course only to get away with it without charge or accountability.
This year, we've see similar agitations with mobilizations of Sikhs against the Dera Sacha Sauda and this weekend the self-proclaimed God Man "Ashutosh Maharaj".
For those unaware, it turns out that Ashutosh and his gang planned for big celebrations in Ludhiana this weekend, only to be met by massive demonstrations by Sikh protesters. Sikh's who are unhappy with Ashutosh still recall his actions many years ago during which he allegedly spoke against the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the revered Guru of Sikhs.
To further elaborate on the complexity of the Sikh Struggle against alleged Government God Man, upon the arrival of Ashutosh this weekend, again, large numbers of Sikhs turned out to protest. As the pictures indicate below, the Punjab Police and the State of India have learned nothing. With the confirmed murder of 1 Sikh and unconfirmed death of 4-6 more, the agenda of further solidifying the Neo-Brahminical structure of India by enforcing the status quo and ensuring the protection of God Man, who with them carry large banks of votes is becoming quite evident. However, in addition to this evident protection by the Punjab Police, the increasing frustrations of the peasantry and non-peasantry populations of Punjab and India are becoming quite clear as well.
