Method of Naam Simran

Postby jaskirat » Fri Sep 04, 2009 6:46 am

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh...

Sat.Shree.Akal to all.

Like everyone knows, Sikhi pays a lot of importance on Naam Simran ( meditation ). Some one was telling me that it is the only word that is repeated on each and every page of the Guru Granth Sahib ji. Now, what I understand from the word 'Simran' is that....it is just 'remembrance'....remembrance of our Lord of course :).But I suppose there are different forms of Meditation or remembrance.
Please share your meditation techniques and also if possible quote the Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh... :D

Re: Method of Naam Simran

Our sikh Gurus have given us the highest form of devotion to the highest being, Wahiguru, in a very simple and direct manner. Hardly there is any parallel in this world. Therefore they have made it simple for us human beings. Before in Satyuga, Treta yuga or Dwapur yuga, the life span was much longer and one had to face hardships before one could gain any spiritual achievements, so our Gurus in this kaliyuga, seeing the pitiful conditions of human beings with a short span of life, they made it very simple, in the form of the beautifull topic discussed in this section, which is Naam Simran.

This Naam simran is the most effective method of devotion to Wahiguru in this age. That is why it is said: simar simar simar simar sukh paavoh.... simran se sukh hot hae, simran se dukh jaaye...Simran of Wahiguru´s Name, brings purity, controls the mind, the maya, and the 5 deadly vices: kam, krodh, lobh, moh and ahankar, which are responsible for our being enslaved in this alien land, since inmemorial times; the soul has forgotten its divine nature, and has been wandering since then in life after life, in the chaurasi ka chakar. So with this Naam simran of Wahiguru Akal Purukh, one cuts the bondages and chains of karmas, sanskaras, moh, maya and agyanta, of worshipping the Lord on the wrong places and in the wrong things. That is why, our Gurus have made it so simple so clear and direct to the point, this is a sign of love and grace from Wahiguru who Himself came as these Gurus to our level to make us realize our divinity and plant the seed of real love and devotion in our hearts for Him, thus removing our misconceptions and agyanta, by giving a precise method of liberation for the souls imprisoned in this creation of Kal, which is Nam Simran. This method is so simple and easy that from a child of 5 years up to an old person can do, no need for pilgrimages, no fastings, no rituals no ceremonies, no gods, no devis or devtas, just the soul and SatPurush, directly. Here the body is the temple, the worshipper is the Soul which is already in the body and the objective(Lord) of the worship is also in the body, the pilgrimge is to be done by the soul, the consciousness, from the tips of the toes up to the entrance of the temple up to the center of the forehead, between the two eyes, which is known a third eye, tisra til, shiv neter, daswan dwar, because that is the door from where the soul consciousness enters the spiritual realms, crossing the astral region, then the causal region, here it disposses all its coverings and chains, bondages, all the karmas are burnt, becomes a pure and inmaculate soul , and regains its own splendour of the light equal to twelve suns and then proceeds upwards, crosses Par Braham region
and with the help of the Shabad Dhun goes back to its origin and merges in Satnam.

With this simran, we focus our attention and make ourselves as subtle as required for the entry in the spitual planes, and then as purity is gained through this process, one starts having His darshan and listening the the divine melody which is mentioned in Anand Sahib, the Five shabads(Panch Shabads), and then only, through this Shabad our karmas are burnt, we gain real knowledge, this Shabad is also known as Sachee Bani, Amrit Bani, which is already reverberating inside each and everyone of us, irrespective of caste creed or colour. When this simran has been perfected with time and dedication, comes a time as stated in Anand Sahib:

Nam jin ke man vasai, vaje Shabad ghanere
The Divine Shabad constantly resounds within the heart, where the Name(Nam) resides (through Nam Simran)

Moreover Guru Nanak speaks clearly about it, in Jap Ji Sahib:

Suniai jog jugat tan bhed
Suniai sasat sinmrit ved

By hearing this Name or Nam of God, the method or realising Him and the secrets of the human body, become known
Knowledge of thefour religious books, the six schools of philosophy and the 24 ceremonial treatises is attained by hearing this Shabad, Name of God.

Nanak bhagta sada vigas(u)
Suniai dukh paap ka naas

Satguru Nanak says taht the devotees always remain blissful. Diseases and sins are destroyed by hearing this Nam, this Shabad, which is God and comes from God.

Suniai sat(u) santokh(u) gian(u)
Suniai atsath ka isnan
Suniai lagai sahaj dhian

Truthfulness, contentment and divine knowledge are obtained by listening to this Akash Bani, Sachee Bani, known also as Shabad, Bani, Anahad Shabad,Shabad Dhun,Akath Katha,Hukum , Bhana.
Spiritual benefit of the bath at sixty-eight holy places is obtained, by hearing this Nam.
And one is absorbed easily in the meditation of God by listening this Name, Holy Sound.

The mahima of this Shabad Dhun is stated in the Granth Sahib at several places and very clearly:
Nanak nirmalNad Shabad Dhun,
Sach ramayNam samainda (Maru M. 1 . P.1083)

Which means: O Nanak, Nad, Shabad or Dhun is pure. It is the true Name of God in which the soul mergeth

At another place: Nam ke Dharay Khand Brahmand, Nam Ke dharay agas patal ( Gauri Sukhmani M.5. P 284)
which means: Nam sustaineth all worlds and universes. Nam sustaineth upper realms and the nether world.

Moreover: Utpat parlo Shabaday hovey; Shabaday hi phir opat hovey ( Majh M. 3. P.117)
Shabad createh, Shabad dissolveth; and Shabad recreateth.
The whole machinery of the Universe runs by the power of Shabad, which is the ultimate source of all Energy and Will that creates and dissolves.

Antar jot Nirantar Bani, Sachay Sahib siwn liv laiy ( Sorath M. 1 Ashtpadian P. 634 )
Inside is the Flame and in that is Bani, which arouseth our devotion for the true Lord
Although this trascendent Bani is in ourselves, we cannot contact it through our physicall senses. It is only by concentrating and withdrawing our attention within that we can get hold of it = that means Nam Simran.

Many more examples can be given, but these above are enough for us to inspire us for making up our minds and a firm resolution to research more and more towards ruhaniyat and spirituality, to be able to do true abhyas and bhakti or devotion to the Almighty Wahiguru. At the same time, be deeply thakful to Him and our Gurus who have made possible this for us the whole mankind, really where we people divide, they (Gurus ) only unite, and show the eternal and universal truth, inspite of our cruelty towards them, whenever they have come on the earth. Through our limited mind, we try to find Him outside and make diversity, but they try to withdraw our attention where He really resides, that is inside ourselves, and make it a simple and easy method for the whole of humanity, for anybody whosoever wants to put it into practice. That is why, if we try to find Him outside, there are many ways ( religions), and we are lost without getting Him, but if we follow their teachings, there is only one way, and surely we get Him, because that is His way, not a man made way, and that is open for everbody, without restrictions to any caste creed or colour.
This is the greatness and beauty of sikhee.

It would be good if we read with care and attention any Bani of our Gurus and try to ponder over them, to benefit from the anahad sukh and anand from them, it is for our profit that our Gurus have left their most precious and higly banis. Before ending, a humble ardaas from this das: may Wahiguru bless each and everyone of us.

The topic mentioned here is about Naam Simran, and we have already some idea about it as seen above, but let us give a little attention as to what all this Naam is about, and it´s real importance, real value. This Naam or Shabad or Bani is the real essence of Satnam, through which He is present in the whole creation. This Naam is not a word of any language. It can not be written or spoken, nor it can be conveyed to others by words or gesture, nor known by the intellect.

This name is a Divine Melody, but it can not be heard with these ears. It is a spiritual conscious power that manifests itself as a trascendent Sound or Music. Only the soul or spirit can hear it, come in contact with it, and finally become onewith it in a spiritual transport. It opens our inner eyes and inner ears, gives us lifeand light, and liberate us from the thraldom of Ignorance and Delusion of Phenomena or Maya. It is the eternal and universal Name of God, the same for all religions, and all people, all humanity, for all times and all places. This Name or Naam is God´s Unwritten Law, Unspoken Language.

Guru Nanak calls this Name, Truth. Inthe opening lines of the Japji He says:
Ad Sach, Jugad Sach, hai Bhi sach, Nanik hosi bhi sach.

In Suhi M .3. P 753 Nank says:
Namay hi te sabh kich hoa .......... It is this Name that has created everything.

This transcendent Name is mentioned by the Guru´s in various ways: Shabad (Sound), Bani(Word), Gurbani( Gurus word),
Sach (Truth), Anhad( Limitless), Anhad Shabad (Limitless Sound), Shabad Dhun (Melody Of the Sound), Sar Shabad (True Sound), Akath Katha (Unutterable Uttereance), Hukam (Command), Bhana (Will), etc.

This Name is the source of true Knowledge, spiritual enlightment, purest love and unalloyed bliss. This very Naam, transcendent Name is in essencethe same as God, and so is our soul. Therefore, when the soul is turned towards it , it is drawn up just as a needle is attracted by a magnet. This Divine Melody is, in its being, the very Ultimate Reality; we can say it is the omnipresent form of God.
If God is an ocean of spirituality and our soul a drop of it, then this trascendent Name or Shabad may be looked upon as a very vast river that flows out of that ocean, runs through and waters the whole creation, the whole cosmos, and then goes back to the ocean. All the drops, i.e., souls that came into this river, are carried back to the ocean.

Guru Nanak in Maru M. 1. page 1038 says:
Nanak nirmal nad Shabad Dhun, Sach ramay Nam samainda
which means: O Nanak , Nad, Shabad or Dhun is pure. It is the true Name of God, in which the soul merges.

Some may ask what is all this Name or Naam, it may sound them strange, though it is mentioned in the Granth Sahib at various places and quite a few times, if this Naam or name of God were only a word or phrase of any language, it could not have created and sustained the whole universe. No, "Name" is the conscious power of Satnam, that is why it can not be had from books, books contain mere words and can give but a poor description of it. The actual Name itself is transcendent and beyond words.
Kabir Sahib the great saint, says in Gauri Kabirjee P. 340. :
Bawan achhar lok trai, sabh kich in hi mahin. Ek akhar khir jaengay, oh akhar in men nahin.
Which means: fifty two letters and three worlds contain everything. these letters shall decay, but that Word is not in these.

Guru Arjan Dev says in Sorath M. 5. P 628:
Dhur ki Bani aiyee, tin sagli chint mitai = This Bani comes from the Most High and removes all worry and anxiety.

Guru Amar Das says in Sri Raag M. 3. P 35 :
bani vajji chahu jugee, sacho sach sunaye. = The Bani ringeth in all the four yugas (cycles of time) and very truth doth it utter.

Further also He says in Sri Raag. M. 3. P33 :
Amrit Sacha naam hai kaihna kachau najai, Pivat hu parvan bhaya poore Shabad samaye = Nectar is the true Name, bat what can we say of it? whosoever drinks it, he alone knows it by merging himself in the complete( full, real) Shabad .

And in Gujri Ki Var M. 3. P 509 :
Sahib Mera sada hai, disai Shabad kamai = My Lord is ever present(omnipresnt), but only through the practice(kamayee) of Shabad or meditation on Naam, can one behold Him.

So we see that this naam which is mentioned by our Gurus, in the bani, as well as the equally high saints as Kabir Sahib, Guru Ravi Das, etc others which are mentioned in the Granth Sahib, because of this Shabad practice, and thus merging themselves in the Most High through this very Naam, beacme one with Pari Puran Parmatma, Akal Purukh, Satnam. That is why their bani is added in the Granth Sahib, because it is as pure and true like our sikh Gurus´. So we can see by ourselves that at every step in the bani, our gurus´ lay stress upon the importance and reality of this Shabad, this Naam, making it universal for all the mankind. It is the kamayee of Shabad, and abhyas or devotion to this Naam, which is going to merge our souls in Sat Purush, irrespective of our creed, color, caste, nationality or religion. And all this is done because of our love and devotion for the Almighty. That is the reason for it is said: sahib ke darbar mein kewal bhakti auy pyar. It is only through this bhakti, whosoever practices it, be he a muslim a sikh an hindu or a issae or a yahudi, this all outwards, but inwards where ruhaniyat, soul or Lord are concerned, only Naam bhakti or Naam Simran is the means for all the souls to go bak to their true Home Sach Khand. As we can see for example Kabir sahid or Guru Ravi Das were not sikhs by birth, but by this karnee(Naam Simram) became one with the Lord and their banis were added in the Grantha Sahib, this is equally valid for all of us. The problem is, that God is just a concept for most of us, though we all talk a lot about Him, but has a very vague meaning, that is why we are lost in fights of religions, dogmas, rites, rituals, lands, races, thus we lose the hold of reality, we cut the throats of each other in the name of religion, or for a piece land, thinking we are going to live here forever, these are all Kal´s trap, to enslave the souls, and these go and fall happily in the trap, thus binding strongly in the wheel of eighty four or cahurasi ka chakar. All material things, oue belongings, made of the 5 tattwas will be left behind, only our Bandagee, our abhyas, our karmas will go with us and mould our destiny, either coming back in this creation if we have not loved Him, or liberating ourselves through this Shabad forever and going back to our true dham, in the lap of Satnamour true Father.
Let us ask ourselves: if the mighty ocean has no caste creed or religion; what caste creed or religion is going to have the microscopic drop soul, are we not stupid by putting more covers on us thus clouding our chit or conciousness?
If the Sun(Satnam) is one, all the rays(souls) emanating from the Sun are equal, then why these differences. We limited men create and divide, but these noble souls, our Gurus taught us the reality of our murakhta, our limited mind, and gave us the right directions to overcome all obstacles in a right manner, with full logic and right attitude.

May Wahiguru bless us all, or better said, let us make ourselves receptive to His grace.

Re: Method of Naam Simran

Simran, apart from repetition also means remberence. It is well known the saying,"as you think so you become"(jaisa dhiaiye, waisa hoiye).
So if we do simran of the world or worldly objects or relations, we are bound to come back in the Chaurasi ka Chakar. Thinking, dwelling or pondering on the perishable, we condem ourselves in the transient and perishable creation, bound to be born from a mother´s womb again and again. On the other hand, if we do Simran of the real and eternal Wahiguru Akal Purukh, through His sweet Nam, His Shabad, we also become free from the cycle of births and deaths. That is why this Nam is known as "Amrit Nam, Maha Ras Meetha", It infuses His knowledge, His Light...not that only...but manifests Wahiguru Himself in us. That is why also, the simram should be done of Wahiguru alone! This is the only real work, real devotion, real bhakti which is going to enable us to realize Him, have His darshan, sorry, no other way. Akal Purukh is not something which can be perceived by our senses, gyan-indriyas or karam-indriyas, neither mind or intellect can reach...He is trascendental...beyond their reach. So one may ask, then how are we going to realize Him? The answer is, by Nam Simran. Just as water when boiled, turns from liquid to gas form, without loosing it´s essence, in a similar manner, by Nam Simran, we are able to release(free at will) our true spiritual nature, from the knot to the physicall and mental bodies, and thus be able to elevate our consciousness into the spiritual realms and be able to have His Darshan, just as we see and talk with each other at this physical plane.
Guru Arjan Dev refering to the above topic, has stated: Pyare in Bidh milan na jaee, me kiye karam aneka, raakh pariyo Soami ke dwar, dijiye budh viveka!
He says, I have tried a thousand(outer) ways(all sort of japs, tapas, fasting, pilgrimages, murti pujas, etc) to find Him, but all have been useless, I am tired now, I am lying at Your door, please give me the correct understanding and sense to do that may please You. And so, our Gurus, have laid big importance to Nam Simran, clarifying us, that if you want to meet the beloved Lord(Pyara Preetam, Pyara Sajan), do this Nam abhyas, or bhakti. So we see, the simran of the Almighty, how important is for us. It should be our priority in our lives...other things we may do or not, but Nam Simran should be a must to be able to achieve the goal of our lives by being born as human beings.

Method of Naam Simran

Postby carlos » Tue Oct 05, 2010 11:33 pm

Some lines from the teachings of Guru Nank have been added below, to just throw some light on the essence of spirituality. On the importance of Nam...and at the end, in the last line, it shows, that Nam of which He speaks, is different from what we ususally know, and it is only meant for those whom He chooses, and how to get it or from where to get it, is entirely upon one´s destiny or "lekh". At other place in the bani is stated: Bhooley marg jineh bataya, aisa Gur wadbhagee paaya.
No mattter what we are told, if we read the bani carefully with attention, and follow the talking of our inner heart, and the reasoning of our superior mind, we will find by ourselves that somethings at some places are going wrong...in spite of the manipulation, because 2+2=4...not 5 or 6 which is = nonsense= without logic. Because the ones who say so, are mahamurakhs...but in the end, it is nobody´s fault, He is the one with sight, He allows Himself to be caught by those whom He wishes, that is why in the last line (below) Guru Nanak, has assured it so. It is not in our hands, we do not have that capacity, neither knowledge nor purity.

1291-1, mlwr
ghar meh ghar daykhaa-ay day-ay so satgur purakh sujaan.
He who shows us our true home within the home of the self, is the true Guru. ( And what does the true Guru say? Guru Sahib points it out, in the following next line).
1291-1, mlwr
panch sabad Dhunikaar Dhun tah baajai sabad neesaan.
The Panch Shabad, the Five Primal Sounds, resonate and resound within; this is the quality of non stop reveberating by which this Shabad is known ( This is the Shabad, the Nam, of which our Gurus have talked about, like Creator, Sustainer, Amrit Bani, Sachee Bani. This is the Nam, which is referred ,when they stated "Shabad Guru, Dhun Chela". This is our true Guru, to which our soul chela follows and reaches it´s Nij Ghar, true house, sach Khand).
(1291-7, mlwr
ayk cheej mujhai deh avar jahar cheej na bhaa-i-aa.
Please, bless me with the one thing(Nam, which is eternal and everlasting); everything else is poison, that it may not tempt me.
1291-10,mlwr
lathay sabh vikaar sabad neesaani-aa.
All my sins and corruption are washed away, through the insignia of the Shabad, the Word of God.
1291-11,mlwr
saaDhoo sang uDhaar bha-ay nikaani-aa.
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one is saved, and becomes free.
1291-16,mlwr
too alakh agochar agam hai gurmat dikhaa-ee.
You are invisible, imperceptible and inaccessible. You are revealed through the Guru's Teachings.( And The true Guru says, awar kaaj tere kitte na kam, mil Sadh Sangat bhaj kewal Nam. And why the sadh sangat? Because in it, and by it, we come to know the secrets of the secrets, Wahiguru Akal Purukh)
1291-17,mlwr
antar agi-aan dukh bharam hai gur gi-aan gavaa-ee.
Deep within, there is ignorance, suffering and doubt; through the spiritual wisdom of the Guru, they are eradicated.( By our own efforts nothing can be achieved, because we are murakhs, we are manmukhs, covered by agyanta, and for that very reason we need Sadh Ka Sangat, where we come to know about the reality which is beyond our senses, Satnam Wahiguru Akal Purukh)
1291-18,mlwr
jis kirpaa karahi tis mayl laihi so naam Dhi-aa-ee.
To him alone, whom You want him to merge him in You, You make Him meditate on Nam.

This Nam is not a word of any language, because this Nam as said, was there when there were no languages, not even man nor creation existed, it is known as Sach also; that is why it is clearly said in the bani: Aad Sach, Jugad Sach...Nanak hosee bhee Sach.It is the fountain of true everlasting happiness, remover of ignorance, washer of sins...Let us read Jap Ji Sahib, and see its glory.

Re: Method of Naam Simran

Postby carlos » Wed Oct 13, 2010 10:53 pm

Following are some lines full of wisdom and knowledge from the Granth Sahib, which i would like to share with all my brothers and sisters who may read them. All the teachings of our Gurus, are utmost sweet, whether taken from the begining, from the middle or the bottom, they have the same sweet taste, the same spritual fragrance. Following are some lines which have to do with the present topic, from Raag Kaydaaraa Mehlaa 4(Guru Ram Das) ghar 1 :

har naam araaDheh say Dhan jan kahee-ahi tin mastak bhaag Dhur likh paavee-ai ray.
Those humble beings who worship and adore the Lord's Name, are said to be blessed. Such is the good destiny written on their foreheads.
*We humans try to divide people according to their religious beliefs, nationalities, caste creed or colour... but see the beauty in how Guru Sahiban clearly declares that only those humble people on whose foreheads is written to get the parsad of Nam and thus they engage themseles in its abyaas, are the blessed ones, the rest is going to be melt with the dust... So the question is not if one is white black, yellow, brown or one is from east, north, south or west....what counts is if one has the love and devotion for Him in our hearts.... otherwise one is going to be smashed by Kal Purukh.

In the following lines Guru sahiban says :
sabh ko bhagat karay har kayree har bhaavai so thaa-ay paavee-ai ray. ||1||
Everyone worships the Lord, but only that person who is pleasing to the Lord is accepted. ||1||

*He says that everybody is busy in some sort of devotion, thinking it is good and of some help in the next world... but He clearly says that do not be in that braham(misunderstanding), only whom He chooses to meet Him, does His real bhakti or abhyaas with Nam Simram, and so is his devotion accepted. The rest are manmukhs, doing what their mind tells them, wandering in the outside forms and rituals that have nothing to do with spirituality or ruhaniyat, like pilgrimages, fasts, bathing in the so called holy waters... pujas... patths...devis... devtas... rites and rituals.... nothing nothing of that sort pleases Him. Thers is only one way: Nam bhakti.

jis no naam day-ay mayraa su-aamee tis laykhaa sabh chhadaavee-ai ray. ||2||
That person, whom my Lord and Master blesses with His Name - his entire account is forgiven. ||2||

*Why is nam bhakti so important? Well, because as we see in the upper line, by getting this Nam with His blessing ,His Daya Meher, our account book is cleared with Kal Purukh, and is literally torn off, and so then one is freed from the wheel of eighty four, one is freed from being born in a mother´s womb.

And further on Guru Ram Das in raag Sree raag says:
naam milai man taripat-ee-ai bin naamai Dharig jeevaas.
Receiving the Naam, the mind is satisfied; without the Naam, life is cursed.

*That if one is connected to Nam through nam Simran, then the mind also comes under control, it returns to its origin in Braham, thus the soul being freed from its clutches, goes higher and higher until it reaches its Nij Ghar and merges back into wahiguru Akal Purukh... and we should bear one thing in mind that these things are not fairy tales ot wild fantasies... they are real and within the reach of any sincere seeker of Satnam. Like our Gurus, throuh this method of Nam Simram, while being in this very human body, they used to come and go from the Land of Sach Khand, of Satnam, visit Him and come back to our levels and impart us the knowledge of Wahiguru, and give us their beautifull banis. Wahiguru spoke to us through them, because their link was in constant touch with Him, so can we.

It is a pity that since they have gone, we have started going off track, we do not understand their real task, their job to awaken us from this Maya & Maha Bhavsagar, having given us the real means to go back to our true home, from where we have strayed away since inmemorial times.
Let us not misuse the unique opportunity of human life, for which even the gods of the height of Shiva , Vishnu or Brahma starve for it, so that they also through Nam bhakti one day, get the mukti.

As He further states:
o-ay fir fir jon bhavaa-ee-ah vich vistaa kar vikraal.
They wander in reincarnation over and over again, as the most disgusting maggots in manure.
*This for the manmukhs who follow the dictates of their minds

So what is the remedy'
Being a Gurmukh, in the company of Sadh- Sangat, where one is bathed , cleansed and perfumed with Nam.

Congrats brother Signey, all i can say...you are a noble soul. That is what I perceive from your words. You have not begun out of any order. When dealing with Wahiiguru, there is no order... this means like when you are in front of your child, what counts is one´s feelings of love...it does not matter whether you first hug him and then kiss him, or the other way...you first kiss him and then hug him... it is all a game of love... and so is the same with our heavenly Father Sat Purush. One is just intoxicated with His divine and pure love. This is real devotion.

Outwards, in outer form of worship, there is some order....like when one goes to a temple for example, one washes his feet and face, arms, takes out the shoes before entering, covers his head, stops at a particular place and bows...etc.

So you see, in outer worship, one follows some rules, but once you are at His door(spiritual door), you are just attracted like a needle to a magnet, there are no rules nor regulations. One only needs courage, faith and humility...the rest will all be done by Him..of course He is our true Father.

As it is said, if you take a step towards Him, He will take a hundred steps to come to our rescue and meeting.

No amount of His darshan is enough, one cannot get satisfaction ever, such is His beauty and inmensity.

In this Kal Yuga, almost nobody has time for Him, except ocasionally, like a ritual. In a similar way to illustrarte this situation: when you have a relation with your son or mother, you do not limit it to a particular time or place...you have the sense of it all the 24 hours... such is the relation we have to establish with Wahiguru. So in a way it is a blessing, to think of Him,through Nam Simran. Any way I would suggest you to read and listen Anand Sahib, and sip each and every word to your innermost, right from the first line up to the end...you will find the answer by yourself. If not by once only that you may get the answer, but pursue on it insistently, otherwise on each line, each parragraph, each page of the Granth Sahib is clrearly written...but in the chapter of Anand Sahib is even more, with particular details about this matter, with more clarification.
With this Anand Sahib, each cell of one´s being dances with unexpressable joy and rejoice, such is the power in it. And with time, do not listen to what you have heard or seen up to the day from others...just try to see with impartial eyes what is written in it, and try to follow it as exact as possible.

One more thing before ending, positive stress should be laid on Sadh-Sangat; about which Guru Nank, first Patshahee says in Raag Sri Raag, page 72:

Sat sangat kaisi janiai; jithe eko Nam vakhaniye.
Know it, that the company of Sadh- Sangat is the place where fragrance of one Nam is spread(talked about), nothing more, nothing less.

May Wahiguru bless, each and everybody.

Someone in one of the upper posts, asks about the need of His blessing...

Actually nothing is possible witout His grace, blessing or call it Daya Meher. In the practice of Nam simran, it is essential also.

Let us take a real example about this matter. We all know who were Guru Ram Das and Guru Arjan Dev. They were perfect or pooran Gurus, means, ones with Wahiguru, while being physically at our human level, but their consciousness in the lap of Sat Purush. So we also know Guru Arjan Dev´s elder brother:"Prithvi Chand", we know how wicked he was. So we can see, that even by being a son of a Perfect Guru, and a brother of a Perfect Guru, he was full of evil, in spite of having the privilege of Darshan and sadh-sangat, right from the day he was born. But as the will or bhana of Wahiguru was not meant for him to recognize what he had around him were not mere humans, but Wahiguru disguised in human form; so that phisically nearness is not enough, no matter even if you live with them under one roof or have Him as a family relation. So one can see, it has more to do with His grace to recognize, to know, to feel and to understand, than any amount of phisiycal proximity or even ones efforts. That is why Prithvi Chand, failed to recognize what he had around him; but any how, nothing goes in waste, by being in their company and having their Darshan, inspite of being full of evil from head to toes, his sanskaras were setteled to sprout out in better conditions for him in the future.

It is all His grace, and only His grace.

So to know or realize Him is also nothing but His grace, that means, as only by Nam simran one can reach Him, so those who do Nam simran, is obviously by His grace also.

At quite a number of places in the Granth Sahib, are examples of this His grace and bakshish.

We have to starve at His door, as beggars, to pour in, His daya meher in our jholees, in the form of Sadh-sangat, as to enable us in taking the first step, of being worthy of receiving His barpoor daya meher and bakshish. The vessel has to be cleansed, so that amrit can be poured in it.
Whatsover steps one may take for making oneself worthy for His bakshish is the cleaning or purifying process. And He showering His grace, is Amrit being poured into the cups of our innermost beings.

Wahiguru Jee kee beaant wadiayee, Wahiguru Jee kee fateh.

Method of Naam Simran

Postby carlos » Tue Dec 28, 2010 12:38 am

It is well known the expression "Satnam Samundar", which relates to the inmensity and magnificency of Wahiguru Akal Purukh.
And we also know that the main quality also of Wahiguru is: "love or prem". The main purpose of Nam bhakti or Nam Simran is make us worthy of being merged in that "Nam". But then, how to develop that love of which of Gurus have given ample examples in the Granth Sahib ? First of all, we must realize that this reservoir of love lies deep within the very core of each and everyone of us. It is what makes us exist and forms the only link with the divine.
We were born with this wonderful gift, and it is always with us independent of our circumstances. It is not something we pick up along the way as we attemt to satisfy some personal or material need. Most of us content ourselves by merely sipping ocassionally at the lake of love, unaware that witin us lie oceans of it.

As human beings, there seems to be restlessness within that we constantly search outside, as though one day we will miracously hit upon what we are looking for. In the process of growing up, we have grown apart from that state of happiness, from that love within us. We can spend an eternity looking here and there, but untill we stike upon this simple truth, our search for that bliss will never cease. NOTHING CAN FILL THAT VOID WITHIN US EXCEPT WHEN WE MERGE WITH THE BELOVED. It is with the divine grace from the Lord above, that we gain the knowledge of how and where to tap this love, and to make it ours forever.

It is His grace if we have that longing to belong. To be one with Sat Purush. To experience a love so pure , will help us in throwing out from ourselves all our worldly cravings and sensual desires along the wayside... To feel that type of love, means to go beyond words, to drink unceasingly from that pool of nectar(Amrit)within. This is what we strive to achieve through Nam Simran. It is the only thing that helps make sense our lives, because it is the one thing that is truly ours and that we can take it with us. When we cry out in love for Wahiguru, we build the store house of our treasure in Sach Khand, all else shall be left behind. That intense longing to merge in Akal Purukh, is what helps that true love shine forth in our lives. Because lovers don`t finally meet somewhere, they are in each other all along. And with this kind of sense, we then feel for ourselves the full power of the creator, the celestial music(Anhad Bani) resounding within our very bodies, loud and clear. Then life begins to have a different meaning, and every step of the way, we move forward with confidence and courage, accompanied at all times by the guiding and loving force of the Shabad, Nam, the true Name.

Such are the highly pure and positive results of Nam Bhakti or Nam Simran.

NAM, what a beautiful word! Have we ever given a thought to what is this all about? We may have read or heard about it, or we may have an remote idea about it, but it is almost impossible to understand it fully...why? Because it is a reality, which trascends the limits of mind and maya. It is the very essence and nature of Wahiguru Akal Purukh. And about this Nam or Shabad, even the gods of the height of Brahma, Vishnu, or Mahadev, with its parents Kal Purukh and mother Shakti, do not know the greatness about it, so what to say about us, normal mortal human beings, though our souls are drops of Sat Purush, or say, rays from the one Sun. But we do come to know about it up to an extent in the company of Sadh Sangat, from where we get the right and precise method, as Gurprasad, as stated in almost each line, each parragraph and page of the Granth Sahib, and the following lines confirms this statement in :

(1363-13, Punhy, mÚ 5)
"mil mil khaaveh sant sagal ka-o deej-ee."
Meeting and joining together, the Saints drink it in, and give it to everyone.

And further on it says:
(1363-13, Punhy, mÚ 5)
jisai paraapat ho-ay tisai hee paavnay.
He alone is blessed with it, who is destined to receive it.

So once we get it, it is not to be hidden, rather, worked out,"kamaee karnee", and why to do it´s kamaee or jaap, because as we read in the following lines:

(1363-2, Punhy, mÚ 5)
panch sataaveh doot kavan biDh maarnay.
The five evil enemies are tormenting me; how can I destroy them?

(1363-2, Punhy, mÚ 5)
teekhan baan chalaa-ay naam parabh Dha-yaa-ee-ai.
Shoot them with the sharp arrows of meditation on the Name of God.
Here we clearly see that the only effective method of overcoming these five deadly passions(kam, krodh, lobh, moh, ahankar) is by Nam Simran or Nam abhyas. And once these enemies and it´s masters mind, maya and Kal Purukh are defeated by this practice, our way to Sach Khand is free from these obstacles and the soul speeds up like a rocket direct to the lap of Wahiguru Akal Purukh, it´s true home and origin.

And then what else happens once we reach our true Nij Ghar?
(1363-5, Punhy, mÚ 5)
saglay ho-ay sukh har naam Dhi-aavanaa.
All comforts are obtained by meditating on the Lord's Name; because our heavenly Father Wahiguru is the endless and unlimited storehouse of the real happiness.

So brothers and sisters, hurry up, our limited account of our swaasas(inspirations and expirations) is being exhausted with each passing second in this allien land of Kal, where misery and pain are its natural characteristics, and where death is certain... let us not misuse this golden opportunity of human birth, which Sat Purush has gifted us, and make the best use of it with the best thing ever possible, and that is Nam Simran or Nam Bhakti. It is not me who is saying it, it is said by all our Gurus´ as we can read by ourselves in the Granth Sahib, or the banis of the true Bhagats, like Kabir, Tulsi Sahib, Ravi Das...etc... the mahima of Wahiguru is infinite as Himself, and we come to know about it only in the company of the Gurmukhs, as stated above.

Wahiguru Ji kee fateh!

Nam Simran is the only sure way to reach Wahiguru. With all other "japs", "taps" or practices, we may get miraculous powers like riddhis or siddhis, or reach Baikunth or Swarg, or at most after much difficulties reach the abodes of Brahma, Vishnu or Shiva, and that`s all. Why, because as it is said: jaisa dhiaiye, vaisa hoiye, in other words,as you meditate, dwell or think of...so you become. So meditating on the only one Satpurush through Nam Simran, is the only remedy, for cutting the chains of our karmas, and wash the dirt accumulated due to these very karmas, to become pure and paviter, to be able to merge in Him.
By meditating on others than Wahiguru, the consequences are :

a) no freedom from the cycle of births and deaths
b) at most our destiny is their place of residence, for a temporary time
c) devotion to them is a hindrance to our real freedom
d) the fire of desires and trishnas is not quenched or satisfied, rather it is fuelled, because when they are happy with our devotion and give darshan, the first thing they say is, ask whatsoever boon you want... in a way, it is a trap to keep our souls in the creation. Except if one is quite pure like Shabree, she asked for Ram himself... But that also is not enough, as we can read the Bani, and see how Guru Nanak says there are countless Brahmas, Vishnus and Shivas in countless universes... so we can imagine the destiny of those who worship anything else apart from Wahiguru.
e) even engaging in their worship, purity is not gained, otherwise why would there be Ravana, Harnakash, Kansa, etc... many other examples from the dharam granths...

And on the contrary, or the other side, by Nam Simran alone, all desires are burnt, all karmas are burnt, thus we are freed from them, purity is gained gradually, thus there is no other motive than Wahiguru, for our love and devotion, and if by mistake, there is any hidden desire, that one also gets burnt to ashes... thus we become totally pure, totally inamculate, and become worthy to stand in His eyes, full of love, and bow in humility, there is no other way, in front of the Sache Badshah, Kul Malik,Satnam... such is His majesty and glory... such is also the mahima of Nam. May each and everyone just love Wahiguru for the sake of love itself, because He is worthy, only of our true and pure love, so let us love Him with all our mind, heart and soul, through the only way possible: Nam Simran, not because I say so, but because that is what our Gurus have taught us, through their bani, as we can clearly see by ourselves, on each line, each parragraph and page in the holy and sweet Bani.
