An open letter to all sikh music webmasters

The following is a letter we sent to some Sikh music site webmasters who were fighting because one site had taken mp3s from another site and labled them with their own tags. Here is our input on this issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa!
Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!!!

You are all welcome to download anything off of SikhSangeet.com and put it on your site (with whatever appropriate tags/filenames), as long as you do not charge anything for them. You should all remember that we all do this for the love of Bani. This is not our copyrighted music to begin with. In reality, our site is very illegal (and so are all your sites). Even live recorded stuff is illegal because you are not asking for the consent of the person to record. One day some of us will probably get shut down, but until that time, we intend to keep providing what people want.

Whenever a visitor requests something, if we do not have it, we download shabads/music from other sites. The only reason we put SikhSangeet.com on those mp3s is because we want to ensure that music that passes through our site is guaranteed to be always there and is consistent with our quality standards. Also, this is done automatically by our scripts, we do not personally do this.

We do not make profit from Sikh Sangeet, anything extra is donated or spent on website needs/more music. We're not trying to compete with any of your sites. We're just trying to provide a better interface for religious music and that's what people want.

BTW, you're all welcome to register your sites in our links directory (it has a good PR): http://links.sikhsangeet.com .

Thank you!
