The topic mentioned here is about Naam Simran, and we have already some idea about it as seen above, but let us give a little attention as to what all this Naam is about, and it´s real importance, real value. This Naam or Shabad or Bani is the real essence of Satnam, through which He is present in the whole creation. This Naam is not a word of any language. It can not be written or spoken, nor it can be conveyed to others by words or gesture, nor known by the intellect.
This name is a Divine Melody, but it can not be heard with these ears. It is a spiritual conscious power that manifests itself as a trascendent Sound or Music. Only the soul or spirit can hear it, come in contact with it, and finally become onewith it in a spiritual transport. It opens our inner eyes and inner ears, gives us lifeand light, and liberate us from the thraldom of Ignorance and Delusion of Phenomena or Maya. It is the eternal and universal Name of God, the same for all religions, and all people, all humanity, for all times and all places. This Name or Naam is God´s Unwritten Law, Unspoken Language.
Guru Nanak calls this Name, Truth. Inthe opening lines of the Japji He says:
Ad Sach, Jugad Sach, hai Bhi sach, Nanik hosi bhi sach.
In Suhi M .3. P 753 Nank says:
Namay hi te sabh kich hoa .......... It is this Name that has created everything.
This transcendent Name is mentioned by the Guru´s in various ways: Shabad (Sound), Bani(Word), Gurbani( Gurus word),
Sach (Truth), Anhad( Limitless), Anhad Shabad (Limitless Sound), Shabad Dhun (Melody Of the Sound), Sar Shabad (True Sound), Akath Katha (Unutterable Uttereance), Hukam (Command), Bhana (Will), etc.
This Name is the source of true Knowledge, spiritual enlightment, purest love and unalloyed bliss. This very Naam, transcendent Name is in essencethe same as God, and so is our soul. Therefore, when the soul is turned towards it , it is drawn up just as a needle is attracted by a magnet. This Divine Melody is, in its being, the very Ultimate Reality; we can say it is the omnipresent form of God.
If God is an ocean of spirituality and our soul a drop of it, then this trascendent Name or Shabad may be looked upon as a very vast river that flows out of that ocean, runs through and waters the whole creation, the whole cosmos, and then goes back to the ocean. All the drops, i.e., souls that came into this river, are carried back to the ocean.
Guru Nanak in Maru M. 1. page 1038 says:
Nanak nirmal nad Shabad Dhun, Sach ramay Nam samainda
which means: O Nanak , Nad, Shabad or Dhun is pure. It is the true Name of God, in which the soul merges.
Some may ask what is all this Name or Naam, it may sound them strange, though it is mentioned in the Granth Sahib at various places and quite a few times, if this Naam or name of God were only a word or phrase of any language, it could not have created and sustained the whole universe. No, "Name" is the conscious power of Satnam, that is why it can not be had from books, books contain mere words and can give but a poor description of it. The actual Name itself is transcendent and beyond words.
Kabir Sahib the great saint, says in Gauri Kabirjee P. 340. :
Bawan achhar lok trai, sabh kich in hi mahin. Ek akhar khir jaengay, oh akhar in men nahin.
Which means: fifty two letters and three worlds contain everything. these letters shall decay, but that Word is not in these.
Guru Arjan Dev says in Sorath M. 5. P 628:
Dhur ki Bani aiyee, tin sagli chint mitai = This Bani comes from the Most High and removes all worry and anxiety.
Guru Amar Das says in Sri Raag M. 3. P 35 :
bani vajji chahu jugee, sacho sach sunaye. = The Bani ringeth in all the four yugas (cycles of time) and very truth doth it utter.
Further also He says in Sri Raag. M. 3. P33 :
Amrit Sacha naam hai kaihna kachau najai, Pivat hu parvan bhaya poore Shabad samaye = Nectar is the true Name, bat what can we say of it? whosoever drinks it, he alone knows it by merging himself in the complete( full, real) Shabad .
And in Gujri Ki Var M. 3. P 509 :
Sahib Mera sada hai, disai Shabad kamai = My Lord is ever present(omnipresnt), but only through the practice(kamayee) of Shabad or meditation on Naam, can one behold Him.
So we see that this naam which is mentioned by our Gurus, in the bani, as well as the equally high saints as Kabir Sahib, Guru Ravi Das, etc others which are mentioned in the Granth Sahib, because of this Shabad practice, and thus merging themselves in the Most High through this very Naam, beacme one with Pari Puran Parmatma, Akal Purukh, Satnam. That is why their bani is added in the Granth Sahib, because it is as pure and true like our sikh Gurus´. So we can see by ourselves that at every step in the bani, our gurus´ lay stress upon the importance and reality of this Shabad, this Naam, making it universal for all the mankind. It is the kamayee of Shabad, and abhyas or devotion to this Naam, which is going to merge our souls in Sat Purush, irrespective of our creed, color, caste, nationality or religion. And all this is done because of our love and devotion for the Almighty. That is the reason for it is said: sahib ke darbar mein kewal bhakti auy pyar. It is only through this bhakti, whosoever practices it, be he a muslim a sikh an hindu or a issae or a yahudi, this all outwards, but inwards where ruhaniyat, soul or Lord are concerned, only Naam bhakti or Naam Simran is the means for all the souls to go bak to their true Home Sach Khand. As we can see for example Kabir sahid or Guru Ravi Das were not sikhs by birth, but by this karnee(Naam Simram) became one with the Lord and their banis were added in the Grantha Sahib, this is equally valid for all of us. The problem is, that God is just a concept for most of us, though we all talk a lot about Him, but has a very vague meaning, that is why we are lost in fights of religions, dogmas, rites, rituals, lands, races, thus we lose the hold of reality, we cut the throats of each other in the name of religion, or for a piece land, thinking we are going to live here forever, these are all Kal´s trap, to enslave the souls, and these go and fall happily in the trap, thus binding strongly in the wheel of eighty four or cahurasi ka chakar. All material things, oue belongings, made of the 5 tattwas will be left behind, only our Bandagee, our abhyas, our karmas will go with us and mould our destiny, either coming back in this creation if we have not loved Him, or liberating ourselves through this Shabad forever and going back to our true dham, in the lap of Satnamour true Father.
Let us ask ourselves: if the mighty ocean has no caste creed or religion; what caste creed or religion is going to have the microscopic drop soul, are we not stupid by putting more covers on us thus clouding our chit or conciousness?
If the Sun(Satnam) is one, all the rays(souls) emanating from the Sun are equal, then why these differences. We limited men create and divide, but these noble souls, our Gurus taught us the reality of our murakhta, our limited mind, and gave us the right directions to overcome all obstacles in a right manner, with full logic and right attitude.
May Wahiguru bless us all, or better said, let us make ourselves receptive to His grace.
